Get Outside and Enjoy the Ice This Winter in Washington DC

Winter may be the time where many people go into hibernation, but for many others it’s the season of snow sports! Ice skating, snowboarding, skiing, sledding, even curling are just some of the fun winter sports you can try during the cold months around your 1331 Maryland apartment that will keep you active and entertained. You can even work up a sweat under all those layers!

Have you been out to brave the weather for some winter fun yet this year? If you haven’t and you’re looking for a little cold weather camaraderie, try this local hang out for some fun outdoors this January.

The Wharf Ice Rink  – Easily one of the most beautiful winter spots in the city, The Wharf Ice Rink is Washington DC’s only over-water ice skating rink (to our knowledge, we don’t know any other city that has one!) Located less than a 15 minute walk  from your 1331 Maryland Apartment, visit Transit Pier right outside The Anthem and lace up your skates—bring your own or rent some rink-side—to glide over the ice and enjoy amazing views of the water and Washington DC monuments. While you’re there, treat yourself to some hot beverages and seasonal specialties at nearby restaurants and shops.

In addition to free skates where Washingtonians can enjoy some peaceful ice time, The Wharf also offers other fun winter activities. Have you ever wanted to try curling? Join them for a free, friendly game of curling every Wednesday evening in January! The Canadian game marries hockey and shuffleboard for a low-pressure evening on the ice—no skates needed – and is a fun way to get in some outdoor exercise without having to be good on ice skates.

For our resident Washington Capitals fans,  The Wharf Ice Rink has gone ALL CAPS this winter in their local hockey team pride. Check out the Washington Capitals décor and ice resurfacer, and join fellow hockey fans on the ice for their Rock The Rink skate event on January 15. The Rock The Rink skate event features a DJ, Caps gear giveaways, and a visit from Slapshot. During the event, they’ll also broadcast the Capitals’ away game on a jumbotron near the ice and fans wearing Capitals gear receive $5 off admission to The Wharf Ice Rink.
