Start Your New Year’s Healthy Eating – After National Bagel Day on January 15th
It’s been an interesting year in America, especially in Washington D.C. While many of the comforts that we know and love in our city have been put on hold this past year, there’s one thing they can’t take away from us – comfort foods! Whether you’re a native New Yorker, or a Washingtonian for life, this round little piece of a bread isn’t the healthiest breakfast, but it’s always delicious. No matter what’s on the news, you can always sit down and enjoy your morning coffee with a nice bagel from one of these local bagel shops. Because of COVID, many of our local bagel shops now deliver!
Call Your Mother Deli – You’ve probably seen them on Instagram lately (because let’s be honest, who hasn’t) but we promise this Washington D.C. deli is so much more than Instaworthy food – it’s delicious too! Located about 20 minutes from your 1331 Maryland apartment, this famous capital deli is known for its thick juicy sandwiches and of course – it’s bagels! Starting at 3PM each day, you can order through their website for the next day’s bagel delivery.
Do you like your food places to also have a heart? Well then this is the deli for you. We aim to make a positive impact in our neighborhoods beyond just being a great place to eat and work. Call Your Mother Deli is committed to supporting our D.C. neighbors, especially the people who have been in Park View the longest. For those in need, they provide breakfast for kids on Georgia Ave. Some of their other partners include: Urban Alliance to offer career training to area youth, AYUDA to help transform the lives of underserved immigrants, Food Rescue to do our part to end hunger, and Park Morton Kids Camp to make spaces for kids to be creative.
Bethesda Bagels – Located throughout Washington D.C., the closest Bethesda Bagels location to our 1331 Maryland is only a five-minute drive away. But, since COVID started, there’s no reason to even leave your apartment! Plan ahead and order your bagels by 8PM the previous evening, and you can have fresh bagels delivered right to 1331 Maryland. Just order through their online service Toast. Bethesda Bagels is the largest chains in DC, Maryland and Virginia. With tons of options for artisan bagels and gourmet sandwiches, you can celebrate “National Bagel Day” for many days on end while trying out their extensive menu.
Firehook Bakery – The first tip online for this local bagel place is “Get there early to make sure they still have bagels.” Translation: These are some good bagels. In business in Washington D.C. since 1992, Firehook has made a commitment to baking from scratch and using all natural ingredients. If getting there early is a hassle (we hear ya), no worries! Because of COVID, they also offer online order and delivery. You can order right through their website!
